Thea in Lebanon!

Posted on: March 18, 2009

Maybe not the first place you think of when you hear the word snowboard, however this was the goal of the trip this time. I must say that I was a bit skeptical, you hear about the war down there all the time, but as it turned out there was no reason to worry. My trip started out really good, I got upgraded to Business Class at Gardemoen, so I was “pimping” with a 4 course meal and a lot of extra space on my way down to Istanbul. Here I met up with the rest of the crew, Conny Bleicher, Julia Baumgartner, Diana Sadlowski and the photographer Carlos Blanchard.

We had a lot of bad weather down there, we only got three days in the slopes, but there was lots of other stuff to do as well. The small mountain village Faraya was full of spots so we had more than enough to do all week. The people down there were absolutely fantastic, Julia had been in contact with some guys before we left, and they were there for us all the time. Picked us up from the airport, drove us around for sightseeing and took us to a real Lebanese restaurant. The food down there was amazing, lots of weird meat and cheese.

The last day we finally woke up to bluebird, and we were able to get to the top of the mountain, the view from there was fantastic. We could see all the way to Israel and the Mediterranean Sea. Crazy that we are up there in temperatures below zero and just a few kilometers away it’s well above 20.. The guys were there for us again and showed us all their favorite spots. I had lots of fun that day.

Next day the guys drove us down to Beirut again, our plane didn’t leave until 4 so we had time for some sushi and party before we said goodbye to the guys. I had a great week.

Take care
