Maribeth Swetkoff’s trip to Yosemite

Posted on: February 27, 2009

So every once in while, I feel the need for a good ass kicking…  And by good- I mean fun, and by ass kicking- I mean  a serious  workout adventure… Over the last few days, I hiked into the Yosemite backcountry with 5 friends from June Lake, a husky named Bodie, and my little pup, Munchkin. We snowshoed/ split boarded in about 10 miles, crossed over a frozen lake and found a little wilderness cabin.
The cabin had one bed, some dishes, and some large metal buckets for melting snow on the woodstove.  After a delicious lamb burger dinner with some wine, cocktails, and, and rice pudding for dessert, we played poker and dominos for a while before curling up in our sleeping bags. The next day, we woke up and had coffee and breakfast burritos. Then we hiked up two different peaks and snowboarded down them. The snow was not that great but the views were absolutely stunning and the ride down was well worth it… Munchkin did great and hiked up most of the way. If the snow got too steep or too deep for her, I put her into a pouch that I made out of my Nikita scarf. It’s a perfect dog carrier! Thanks Nikita!  She also stayed in her pouch and snowboarded down the mountain with me. Yes, Munchie loves snowboarding! We had another amazing dinner and a few more rounds of poker and dominos.
The next morning, after breakfast, we hiked up one more mountain, rode down, packed up all our gear and cleaned up the cabin.  The hike back out was mostly down hill but we had two sleds packed with gear that we had to tow out so it slowed us down a lot.  It was such a great trip and I definitely feel like I am in shape now… Tonight- a full body massage!! Aaaaahhh….
